'What is Telnet?'

...I hear you cry. That's a good question and one I'll try to answer. Telnet is a program that allows two computers that are linked together (by the Internet for example) to communicate with each other so that one can be operated remotely by a user. It is used for many things, but one of the most usual is mudding, which is what the links on my homepage lead to.

Ok, so now you know what those links on my page do and what telnet is, so now you need a copy of a telnet program. If you click here:

Down load a copy of Commnet.exe (1.03Mb) now!

you will get a copy of the shareware program Commnet, so register it if you find it useful or programs like this will cease to be written as all the programmers will starve to death. This may seem like a good idea, but....

Once you have the Commnet program on your hard drive run the commnet.exe self-extracting archive to set up the Commnet programme. It will work on both 16 and 32 bit versions of Windows. If you had bothered to install Linux in the first place you wouldn't have to faff about with all this as it comes with it as standard, but we haven't all got a decent sense of taste so I'll get on with the instructions.

Now you will have to set the commnet.exe program to be your selected telnet application for your browser. If you have a copy of Netscape Navigator V2+ you will be able to do this by selecting the 'Options' menu and then 'General Preferences..'. Click on the 'Apps' tab and put the path and name of commnet.exe in the 'telnet application' box. Once you have saved the apps and registered the software it will work seamlessly. If you don't have a copy of Netscape Navigator go and get one.
